Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Question 1:
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Interviewer: in what ways do you
think that your media product has developed real forms and conventions of real
media/music videos… and if so how?
Lauren: I feel as though
in my media production we have included different conventional tropes that
contribute to challenge forms of real media products. For example in the start
of our media production we included the title of the music video therefore it
is obvious for the consumer to be aware of the music video and what the title
of the music video is called. Furthermore we placed the artists name at the
start of the video also so that viewers were informed on which artist is it and
what the name of their song.
Another convention in which our
production includes conventions of real media products is to have a storyline,
like most music videos it includes a story line to help the consumer have a
better understand of the type of genre and the lyrics in the song as to what
the meaning of the music is.
Moreover another way in which our
production portrays tropes of real media production is through camera shots,
angels and movements. This is important as most professional music videos have
a variety of different camera shots, angles and movements so that it isn’t boring
for the consumer to watch and that it keeps the music video entertaining to
watch. Furthermore, my media product also used the convention of slow motion to
portray sadness in the music video. Most professional music videos that I research
into used slow motion in their music if the emotion they were trying to portray
is sadness therefore we opted to use the slow motion into our music video to
really give a sense of a professional music video in what they would include.
Interviewer:
do you think that your production has challenged any of conventions of real
media productions and if so how?
Lauren:
Furthermore, I feel as though or media product also challenged forms and
conventions of some music video for example Adele’s someone like you music
video is all shot in black and white. The genre of the music video is the same
however, the two main colours throughout this music video is just mainly black
and white therefore, we didn’t want to just portray the whole of the music
video to be emotional and about just the one emotion this is why we included a
lot of colour and movement into my production in so that it shows a metaphor of
her trying to move on with her life after her break up. However, most of the
coloured scenes in the music video are
treated to have a greyish tone on the colours so therefore the colour is not necessarily
all there, which shows that she is still on this journey, however it is the
journey of her past as the greyish and the black and white symbolise the theme
of memories throughout the production and that it not until towards the last scenes
of the music video there are only a few scenes in which we didn’t colour
treated, to show that she has finally let go and moved on with her life.
Furthermore I feel as though the
overlay of images in my production also challenges forms of real media
productions as most overlays would be in plain black and white or both to have colour, whereas some of the
overlays that I included in my production are both black and white and a solid
colour and I think that it is really powerful as it shows the different moods
that she is going through, there is a scene where the protagonist is dancing
and it has an overlay of a tree in red whilst she is dancing in black and white
and the red symbolises her emotion in that she’s angry and vulnerable and he
then expresses this through dancing.

Selena Gomez
for my audience research I have looked at a range of different artist which have a similar target audience to which I am looking for in my music video. in this music video Selena has similar components in which I have contributed into my own production therefore I feel as though my target audience of young females will be very successful.
Taylor swift
Props
for my media production we used a number of props to enable the best possible outcome for our production for example the equipment in which we used to help film our production are:
- a tripod
- camera
- iphone
i used these products to help film my production in so that it gave the music video a much more professional and sophisticated look. rather hand held camera. We also used our i phones so that we could correct the lighting in some parts of our music video. for example we had difficultly in filming some of the dancing scenes in our music videos as the camera we used could not correct the lighting in the studio. therefore we opted into using our IPhones so that we could correct the lighting and have the best possible put come to our music video.
Costumes
for my media production we wanted to use a range of different costumes to show the long time period that is on going throughout or music video. for example:
dancing scene:
forest scene:
city centre scene:
All of these different costumes portray the emotions that the protagonist is feeling. we used the costumes a s a metaphor to do this as well as the emotions on the protagonists face we also wanted that to be complimented with the clothes that she is wearing throughout the music video

Lighting
when we first started to film our production we started using a Sony hand cam HDR-CX110 to film our production. however, when we started to film in the studio we had some technical difficulties in that the Sony hand cam wasn't correcting the lighting therefore we could not see the protagonists face. therefore we decided to play about with what he had therefore we started to use my iPhone to see if we could correct the lighting. and we found that the iPhone 7 plus was much better quality therefore we decided to use an iPhone 7 plus to film our studio/dancing scenes.
here is some footage we took playing about with the IPhone 7 plus camera:
